I did my bit for world wide web peace by making another web site Flash-free.

Check out Brock Meeks Photography. If the name sounds familiar, Brock Meeks is MSNBC.com’s chief writer on homeland security issues, and a very good friend going back 20+ years now.

All the nifty navigation controls and animation were once rendered in Flash and I rewrote them in JavaScript. His former site was also limited only to viewing with certain Microsoft IE browsers. Now any modern browser can visit the site.

Adobe Flash was a groundbreaking technology that revolutionized the web in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It enabled rich, interactive content like animations, games, and video to be seamlessly integrated into websites, transforming static pages into dynamic experiences. This empowered web developers to create engaging multimedia content that was previously impossible with standard HTML. However, Flash’s reign eventually ended due to several factors, including its performance and security vulnerabilities, the rise of HTML5 as a more open and standards-based alternative, and the growing prevalence of mobile devices where Flash had limited support and often poor performance. Ultimately, the industry shifted towards more modern web technologies, leading Adobe to officially end support for Flash in 2020.
